Other application and Windows errors
When I try to sign-in to Quickbooks, I get this error: "QuickBooks is unable to open this company file. It may have been opened by another user..."
Please contact your coworkers who work in that company file and confirm no one is doing functions requiring single user mode.
Click here for some examples of single user/muti-user functions.
If the coworker found with the company open in single user, it can be switched to muti-user in QuickBooks settings:
- Go to the File menu, then select Switch to Multi-user mode.
- If are getting the same issue, reboot all workstations.
If not, then QuickBooks may have a stuck session or issue with the network connection to the company file. Please reach out to our helpdesk for assistance.
A Word/PDF file opens showing only gibberish or won't open at all. How do I fix this?
This may happen if the file has the wrong extension or had the extension removed accidentally. This may happen when renaming files.
- From File Explorer, ensure that extensions are being displayed by going to View > Show > File Name Extensions.
- Find the file and confirm that it has the correct extension. For example, Word documents should have a .docx extension, and PDF files should have a .pdf extension.
- Try opening the file again.
I get no sound from an application.
- Test other applications or websites. Check if sound works with other applications or websites.
- Verify the sound device in Taskbar. Confirm the selected sound device in the taskbar. Ensure you are using the correct output device.
- If you still have no sound, apply Windows Updates and restart your computer when complete.
