Application Crashes or Freezes

If you are experiencing crashes or freezes in an application, here are some suggestions that can help you get back on your way:

Restart the application

Try to restart the application by closing it and opening it again. If you are unable to close the application by clicking on the close button, you can force it to close by using the Task Manager:

  1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del then click on Task Manager, or press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to launch the Task Manager.
  2. From the apps list, find the application and click on its name.
  3. Click on End task at the bottom right of the Task Manager window.
  4. Try launching the application again.

Sign out of your session

Sometimes, data from an application gets cached during your session, or it conflicts with other software or data. Starting a fresh session may help the application start working again. To log off:

  1. Save all your work from other applications.
  2. Click on Start.
  3. Click on the Person icon next to your name (also called avatar).
  4. Click on Sign out.

Reboot the computer

If signing out did not help, you may need to reboot your computer. Keep in mind that rebooting the computer in shared environments such as Remote Desktop servers or Azure Virtual Desktop will require intervention from our support. You can find instructions on how to restart your computer here.

Check for conflicting applications

Other software may be interfering with the application you're using, causing crashes or freezes. You can try closing all other applications and then checking if it gets back to normal.
