Internet Connection Issues

I have no internet connection on my computer. What should I do?

  • Verify if other devices connected to the same network have internet access. This helps determine if the issue is specific to your computer or the entire network.
  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve network connectivity issues. Restart your computer and check if the internet connection is restored. You can find instructions on how to restart your computer here.
  • Look at the network icon in the system tray (usually in the bottom-right corner of the screen). If there's a red "X", it may be a unplugged network cable. A yellow triangle may indicate a network issue.
  • If you are working from home, power cycle your router or modem by turning it off, waiting for about 10-15 seconds, and then turning it back on. This can help refresh the connection.
  • If you are on Wi-Fi, check the Wi-Fi issues section for troubleshooting tips.
  • Ensure that all cables connecting your computer to the router/modem are securely plugged in. Check for any loose or damaged cables.

My connection is slow.

If your internet connection is slow, you may try the steps above to fix it. If you have already attempted the steps above, here are some more steps you can try:

  • Ensure that internet is slow overall and not for some websites only.
  • Use online speed testing tools to check your current internet speed. Websites like Ookla's Speedtest or Fast.com can provide insights into your download and upload speeds.
  • If you're using Wi-Fi, try connecting your computer directly to the router using an Ethernet cable. Wired connections often provide faster and more stable speeds than wireless connections.
  • Make sure there are no ongoing downloads or uploads in the background on your devices. Some applications may use bandwidth without your knowledge.
  • Ensure that your Wi-Fi network is secured with a strong password. Unauthorized users on your network can consume bandwidth and slow down your connection.
  • Disconnect or turn off devices that are not in use. Multiple devices connected to the same network can impact internet speed.
