Display Questions and Issues

I just got a new monitor. How do I plug it in?

Your monitor will come with a DisplayPort cable and a power cable. Some models may come with a USB cable as well.

Make sure that you use the provided DisplayPort cable and plug it in to the DisplayPort port on your computer.

If you have a discrete graphics card, make sure that you connect the cable to that card.

Connect the power cable to a power strip, and if provided, the USB cable to the USB port on the monitor, then to any USB port on your computer.

Why is my docking station not showing my additional monitors?

If your docking station is not displaying additional monitors, there could be several reasons for the issue. Here are steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

  • Confirm that the additional monitors are properly connected to the docking station. Check the cables and ensure they are securely plugged into both the docking station and the monitors.
  • Check the Display Settings. Right-click on the desktop and select "Display Settings" (on Windows) or go to "System Preferences" > "Displays" (on macOS). Check if the additional monitors are detected and configured correctly.
  • If your docking station has multiple video output ports, try connecting the monitors to different ports on the docking station.
  • Ensure that the docking station is receiving power and that the power adapter is functioning correctly. Some docking stations require external power to support multiple monitors.
  • Unplug the docking station from power and disconnect it from your computer, then disconnect it from power. Hold the power button for 15 seconds to eliminate any residual power. Wait for a few seconds, then reconnect and power it on. Also, restart your computer. This can help refresh the connection.
  • Check the specifications of your docking station to confirm its maximum supported number of monitors. Some docking stations have limitations on the number of displays they can handle simultaneously.
  • Ensure that the cables you are using to connect the monitors to the docking station are in good condition. Faulty or damaged cables can lead to display issues.
  • Confirm that your monitors are compatible with the docking station. Some monitors may have specific requirements for connecting to docking stations, such as supported resolutions and refresh rates.
  • Test each monitor individually by connecting them directly to your computer to ensure they are working. This helps determine if the issue is with the monitors or the docking station.

My screen is not turning on. What should I do?

If your screen is not turning on, there could be various reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Check Power Connection

  • Ensure that the power cable is securely connected to both the power outlet and the monitor.
  • If you are using a power strip, make sure it is turned on and working. Try plugging the monitor directly into a known working outlet.

Verify Monitor Power

  • Check if the monitor's power indicator light is on. If not, there might be an issue with the monitor's power supply or the monitor itself.

Inspect Cables

  • Ensure that all cables connecting your computer to the monitor are securely plugged in. This includes the power cable, video cable (HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort, VGA), and any other relevant cables.

Try a Different Cable

  • If possible, try using a different cable to connect your computer to the monitor. A faulty cable might be causing the issue.

Test with Another Monitor

  • Connect your computer to another monitor (if available) to see if the issue is with the monitor or the computer itself. If the second monitor works, the problem may be with your original monitor.

Check Computer Settings

  • Ensure that your computer is not in sleep or hibernation mode. Try pressing keys on the keyboard or moving the mouse to wake it up.

Restart Your Computer

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve display issues. Reboot your computer and see if the monitor turns on. You can find instructions on how to restart your computer here.

Inspect for Physical Damage

  • Examine the monitor for any physical damage, such as a cracked screen or damaged ports. Physical damage may require professional repair.

Perform a Power Cycle

  • Turn off the monitor, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve power-related issues.
