Computer Issues
How do I properly restart my computer?
To restart your computer:
- Save all your work from other applications.
- Click on Start.
- Click on the Power Button.
- Click on Restart.
Do not use the Shut down function, as in modern Windows systems it doesn't fully clear the system state.
My computer is not starting. What can I do?
If your computer is not starting, there could be various reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:
Check Power Connection
Ensure that the power cable is securely connected to both the power outlet and the computer. If you're using a power strip, check if it's turned on and working.
Verify Power Supply
Check if the power supply is functioning correctly. You can do this by testing the power outlet with another device. If the power supply is faulty, you may need to replace it.
Inspect for Physical Damage
Examine the power cable for any signs of physical damage. This includes frayed cables, burnt areas, or damaged connectors.
Disconnect External Devices
Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external hard drives, printers, etc.) from your computer. Sometimes, a faulty external device can prevent the computer from starting.
Perform a "Hard" Power Cycle
Turn off the computer, disconnect it from the power source, and hold down the power button for about 15 seconds to eliminate any residual power. Then, reconnect the power and try turning the computer on.
Check Monitor Connection
Ensure that the monitor cable is securely connected to both the computer and the monitor. If you have a dedicated graphics card, make sure the monitor is connected to the correct port.
Test with a Different Power Outlet
Plug your computer into a different power outlet to rule out issues with the outlet itself.
