Restoring Previous Versions from a File Share
File shares use a feature in Windows called Shadow Copies to preserve previous versions of files. To restore previous versions of a file stored in a file share, or a deleted file, follow these steps:
- From File Explorer, navigate to the file share. That may be a mapped drive on your computer (for example, drive S:).
- If you want to restore a deleted file, right click on the folder where the file was stored, then go to Properties. If you want to restore a previous version of a file that exists, right click on the file, then go to Properties.
- Click on the Previous Versions tab.
- Select the version that you would like to restore, then click on Restore.
- Wait for the restore process to complete.
Be careful! Restoring files and versions will overwrite the current versions on the file share. We advise you to reach out to our Support team before attempting a restore.
