Working with the Azure Virtual Desktop

How do I log off or sign out?

When you are done for the day, please log off from the virtual desktop. If you close the window without logging off / signing out, your applications will remain open. The server will log you off automatically after three hours and you might lose any unsaved work.

To log off:

  1. Open the Start Menu and click on the avatar icon.
  2. Click on Sign out.

Is there a limit to connections?

If you are connected but idle for over two hours, the system will disconnect you.

Disconnected sessions (either by you or by the system) will remain open for another hour. After that period, you will be logged off. Please make sure that you save your open files before disconnecting.

How do I change the session screen size and resolution?

To change your session screen size:

  1. From the Remote Desktop app, right click on the session host and click on Settings.
  2. Click on the slider and change Use default settings to Off.
  3. Choose your settings accordingly.

We strongly recommend leaving the settings at default, which are using all available monitors at the maximum resolution.

I need assistance copying my files to the virtual desktop. What do I do?

If you need help copying files to the virtual desktop, please reach out to our helpdesk: Getting Support.

File copies done by support will require you to be logged off, so they will likely happen during off-hours. We will need your workstation to be online during the copy.

How do I print documents and files?

You can print to one of your local printers. Local printers will show up as redirected printers (with (Redirected) next to their name).

I need an application that is not on the virtual desktop. How do I install it?

Please make sure that the application is not on the desktop, Start Menu or taskbar.

If you cannot find the application, please reach out to our helpdesk with the application name and the reason why you need it, and we will evaluate your request.
